What does a weekly pool service include?

Updated October 8, 2026

Written by Richard Ellis, Certified Pool Operator

Short answer

A proper weekly pool service includes skimming the surface, vacuuming the floor, brushing the walls and steps, emptying the skimmer and pump baskets, cleaning the filter, and testing and balancing the water. Ours also sprays the tile line, includes every chemical in the monthly price, and comes on the same day every week.

Pool service quotes can look alike on paper and be very different in the backyard. The fastest way to compare them is to ask what actually happens on each visit. Here is what a complete visit looks like, how often each part needs doing in Florida, and what is normally a separate job.

What does a weekly pool service include?

Everything it takes to keep the pool clean and the water safe for another week. On every one of our visits:

  • Net the surface and the floor
  • Vacuum the pool
  • Brush the walls, steps and tile
  • Empty the skimmer and pump baskets
  • Clean the filter
  • Spray the tile line
  • Test the water and balance it, with every chemical included

Same day every week, so you are never wondering. That list is the core of our weekly pool service.

What does monthly pool service include?

Usually the same weekly visits, billed once a month. Monthly is how most companies charge, not how often they come. Ask how many visits the monthly price covers and whether chemicals are in it, because that is where quotes really differ. What weekly pool service costs has the numbers for Palm Beach County.

How often should a pool be cleaned?

Once a week in Florida. Heat, sun and afternoon storms move the chemistry too fast for every other week to keep up, especially from May to October. After a big storm the pool may need attention between visits.

How often should a pool be vacuumed?

Weekly, as part of the visit, and again after storms or a green pool cleanup. Dirt on the floor feeds algae and uses up chlorine, so it should not sit for long.

How often should a pool filter be cleaned or backwashed?

Clean it whenever the pressure gauge reads about 8 to 10 psi above its clean reading, and more often after storms or algae. Sand and DE filters are backwashed. Cartridge filters are pulled and rinsed.

We clean the filter every visit, because a loaded filter is one of the most common reasons a pool goes cloudy even when the chemistry is right.

What is not included in weekly pool service?

Repairs and equipment replacement are separate jobs everywhere, and so is an acid wash, which means draining the pool. Pressure cleaning the deck, cleaning the screen enclosure and screen repair are separate services too, though plenty of our customers add them. See pressure cleaning and screen repair.

Is weekly pool service worth it?

For most Florida pool owners, yes. A missed week in summer can mean a green pool, and a green pool costs more to fix than several weeks of service. You also skip buying and storing chemicals, which the CDC asks people to keep cool, dry and apart.

If you enjoy doing it yourself, that is a good routine too. Get a proper DPD test kit and do not skip weeks in summer.

Quick answers

Do you come the same day every week?
Yes. Your pool gets a set day, so you always know when it is being done.
Are chemicals included in the price?
Every chemical, every month. The price does not change after a rainy July.
Do you clean the filter every visit?
Yes. A clean filter is a big part of why a serviced pool stays clear through summer.
